Read this page as it was lived: it opens at the theory's lowest hour — the day its clocks were declared impossible — and its addenda record, dated cut by dated cut, how adversarial review reversed the verdict: the impossibility was narrowed to the observables it actually governed, inertia was built for the first time, and the clock question closed into a formula with general relativity as its exact limit. The original text is preserved unedited below, because the reversal is only believable with the low point on the record. For the current standing of every claim, start at the front page.
Take the theory's founding sentence seriously: existing is expensive. A mass is not a thing placed in the vacuum; it is a pattern the vacuum maintains, and maintaining it consumes local entanglement — the links a mass uses to exist are links the surrounding vacuum no longer has. Entanglement is monogamous: every region has a budget, and what one pattern consumes cannot be conjured — it must be drained from elsewhere, link by link, under a strict local sum rule. A conserved drainage is a conserved flux; the flux of budget through any closed surface equals the consumption enclosed. That is a Gauss law, and it is not an axiom about fields — it is what "nothing is consumed without being drained" means. Newton's 1/r² is drainage dilution over spheres. The potential is the depression of the water table.
For forty experiments one question stayed open: who sets the price? The drainage pattern is the cheapest rearrangement of the vacuum's couplings consistent with the sum rule — but cheapest by what measure? Declare an elastic cost by hand, and the force's sign is your declaration, not the vacuum's answer. This program declared one, believed the attraction it produced, and buried that belief as headstone 19 when the dimension gate exposed it.
There are exactly two functionals a vacuum can own. Its energy — and a theorem (n45) closes that route forever: the zero-point energy of a harmonic vacuum is concave in its couplings, so it cannot price a drainage; it destabilizes it, in any dimension. And its geometry of states — the quantum information metric, the fidelity susceptibility, which measures how far the vacuum's wavefunction must move to accommodate a rearrangement. It is positive by construction. It is nobody's choice. It is the founding sentence taken literally: the budget is entanglement, not energy.
Falling, in this theory, is the vacuum discovering that two dents in its self-knowledge overlap. That sentence earned its verbs: each one is a measurement with a public script.
Gravity is not a force that happens to attract. It is a metric: deeper in a potential, every clock runs slower, by the same fraction, whatever the clock is made of. Your phone corrects for it every time it asks a satellite where you are. So we asked the drainage vacuum for time dilation, gates first, and it answered with the most instructive failure of the entire program.
Clocks near a drainage well do slow — every construction we built, universally in sign (n47). But they slow in proportion to the square of the mass, where Einstein — and the GPS constellation — demand linearity. The pre-registered hunt for a linear channel (n47b) found nothing above the systematic floor, and the reason is not a number, it is a structure: on the bipartite substrate, the conserved flux is a staggered field — it alternates sign on adjacent links — and any observer blind to that alternation can only feel its square. The force lives on the signed field; the clocks see only its shadow. headstone 20
We tried every honest escape. Second order, through the state-dependence of the metric itself: a genuine smooth channel opens — and responds as mass squared again, for the same reason (n50). Then the one architectural alternative: a signed sum rule, whose flux is smooth, so clocks can finally couple linearly — and they do, exponent 1.000, every construction. But in that architecture, like masses repel — machine-exact anti-Coulomb — and even the linear clock reads the local flux, not the potential (n51).
And the root of it fits in one sentence, which we believe is the most important sentence this program has produced: in general relativity the potential is itself a local field — g₀₀, sitting at every point, touchable by every clock — while in any flux-conservation theory the potential is irreducibly a nonlocal integral of the flux, and local matter can only couple to the flux. Redshift is not hard for drainage theories. It is impossible for them.

This page stood for one day before an adversarial review — conducted in the persona of the man whose clocks are at issue — found the flaw this program had earned the right to be found guilty of: we never built a clock. Every clock we tested was a substrate observable or a bookkeeping entry; the theory's own matter was never asked the time. And the theory had never constructed inertia at all — though its own metric dictates it: the pullback of G along a dressing's position, making the equivalence principle an identity (charge, potential, and inertia from one object). The consequences, measured the same day (n54, gates first): headstone 22 is re-carved — the k⁻² that produced "anti-redshift" is the conformal factor of the whole information geometry, cancelling exactly (to 1.000000) in any true frequency ω = √(V″/m); γ = −1.25 was the units of the ledger, not the physics of the matter. And the dichotomy's epitaph is narrowed: the theorem governs parity-neutral substrate clocks — but matter is parity-charged, exempted by the theorem's own corollary, and the first operational matter-clock measurement shows its frequency shifting linearly in the source (exponent 1.10) through the same channel the force uses. The theorem stands as proven; its epitaph was wider than its premises. What remains between this theory and Einstein's clocks is now exactly one derivation: the dressing's dynamics — the conversion of information distance into time — which selects the toy's γ from a shortlist that now reads {no redshift, 0, +1}. General relativity is on the list. The wall we declared closed has one door, and it is labeled with the one thing this static program never had: time itself.
Asked to create rather than referee, the same reviewer handed back a memorandum (preserved verbatim) whose every claim was converted to gates and run the same day (n55). All gates passed. The results, in ascending order of consequence: the force of this theory cannot live in any Hamiltonian sector — unitary dynamics inherits the n45 concavity and repels; the attraction is irreducibly a property of the monitored, open-system dynamics. The inertia of a mass, derived (not chosen) from second-order adiabatic response, is the gap-weighted fidelity metric, and it scales as k−5/2 — verified to seven digits against the memorandum's kill clause. And with potential and inertia both forced, the theory's weak-field PPN parameter collapses to a closed formula: γ = (1−2a)/(1+2a), where a is the scaling dimension of the vacuum's monitoring rate. Measured in the toy: a = 0 gives γ = +0.9999; a = ½ gives γ = −0.0000. General relativity — exactly — if and only if the ledger's clock does not care what it prices. Cassini's γ = 1 ± 2.3×10⁻⁵ becomes, on this account, a six-digit solar-system measurement of the state-independence of a decoherence rate — and the theory's laboratory knee (n48) is handcuffed to it: the knee must not sag across gravitational potentials by more than parts in 10⁶, or γ ≠ 1 and the theory dies by the solar system. The equivalence principle, in this construction, is no longer a postulate or a coincidence: charge, inertia, and both metric sectors descend from one geometric object and one rate — an identity of scaling dimensions. What remains, honestly: a is an input in the toy; deriving it in the parent bath framework is the one derivation between this program and a complete weak-field mechanism. The graveyard taught us not to celebrate before that gate. But for the first time in fifty-five experiments, the road to γ = 1 is a calculation and not a hope.
The second knife (same day). Because the first referee had become an author, we sent a second — fully hostile, no stake — and he earned his reputation: the n55 dynamics had discarded a term 685 times larger than the one it kept (the closed sector's repulsive potential — n45's concavity, collecting its debt), one registered gate had gone silently unrun (a pre-registration violation, owned in the record), the "laboratory handcuff" was off by eleven orders of magnitude, and the optical half of γ had never seen a wave. All four amendments ran the same day: the discarded term is real and bounds rather than kills — the formula survives as a strong-monitoring limit (γ·F ≳ 7, measured as a clean scaling law), meaning general relativity is what this vacuum looks like when its ledger is audited fast; the dropped gate was run late and passed (3×10⁻⁶); the first wave ever propagated through a well confirmed the optical response at the 10% level; and the handcuff is corrected to one-directional — Cassini binds, the knee discovers. The claim now carries its five assumptions in public (the Pauli record), its prior-art position is swept (the central claim is virgin, window closing), and the derivation of a = 0 rests on a minimality argument with its own honesty grade (n56). Two referees, two days, five amendments, nothing hidden. That is what this program means by a result.
An honest page must record the escape attempt that its own theorem invited. Escape 3 — make the potential a local field honestly, as a physical budget density b(r) rather than a Lagrange multiplier — was formulated as the Dicke completion: weak-field GR is equivalent to one local scalar driving the light-speed response and the matter-energy response in a fixed ratio (γ = 1 is the ratio Cassini has measured to 2.3×10⁻⁵). Both responses are computable in this theory from the same information metric, so the completion had no knobs: it had to predict γ. It did (n53, gates first). The pipeline validated, the response came out perfectly universal across probes — and with the wrong sign: the maintenance energy of matter scales as k⁻² exactly (a scaling law, verified to seven digits), so matter clocks run faster where light runs slower. γ_toy = −1.25. No constitutive choice can repair opposite exact signs. headstone 22 — the Dicke obstruction
So the wall is higher than the dichotomy alone: even granting the local potential, the vacuum's information geometry prices matter and light with opposite signs. Whatever gravity emerges from, it must not only keep its books locally — it must make its substrate and its matter respond to depletion in the same direction. General relativity does this so quietly that it took a dead theory to notice it was ever a requirement.
We set out to derive gravity from the vacuum's bookkeeping and got exactly half of it — the half that pulls — plus a proof that the other half, the half that slows your clock, can never come from bookkeeping at all: it requires the ledger itself to live at every point in space, which is the one thing general relativity always quietly assumed and the one thing conservation can never provide.
The wager failed. The dissection succeeded. Somewhere in the difference between those two sentences is what this year was for.
